Gen-Z and Millennials: A Renewed Passion for Reading.

Based on the study Gen Z and Millennials: How They Use Public Libraries and Identify Through Media Use by Kathi Inman Berens and Rachel Noorda at Portland State University found that these younger readers are enjoying the experience of holding a print book and turning its pages.

Public libraries have seen a resurgence in popularity among these generations. Libraries offer a commercial-free environment where books can be borrowed for free, providing valuable resources that align with the values of Gen Z and Millennials. This accessibility and sense of community enhance their appeal.

Influencers and Book Clubs

Influencers affect many cultural trends, but Gen-Z’s reading habits aren’t fully influenced by them. However, figures like Kaia Gerber, a 22-year-old model and actress, have highlighted this trend. Gerber started her own book club, saying, “Books have always been the great love of my life. Reading is so sexy.” Her effort shows that reading is now popular and cool among young people.

Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Goodreads have played a crucial role in how these generations engage with literature.
