How to Properly Cite Posts on Social Media Platforms

In this age of social media, we should consider the reliability and source of information shared on these platforms. That’s why proper citing is important.

1. Giving Credit: Just like citing any other source, citing social media gives credit to the original creator or poster of the content. It acknowledges their contribution and helps avoid plagiarism.

2. Verification: Social media content can often be controversial or misleading. By citing social media sources, you allow readers to verify the information and assess its credibility.

3. Context: Social media posts can provide valuable context or firsthand accounts of events, making them important sources for research or reporting.

Below are examples of how to properly cite posts from social media platforms from American University Library.
